Funnel cake

musikfest funnel cake

When I mentioned to my friends that I’m planning to go to Musikfest, several of them mentioned funnel cake. And I’ve never even heard of funnel cake, apparently it’s one of THE carnival/festival food in the US. So I had to get a funnel cake.

What does it taste like? It’s sort of like a Malaysia/Chinese “harm-cheen-paeng”, but the funnel cake is slightly crunchier, not as salty, and it is coated with powdered sugar.
Do I like it? Hmmm…it’s ok but not memorable and not something that I would crave. By the time I ate about a third of it, it started to feel greasy. I only ate slightly less than half of it.

I also had a hot and spicy fresh Kielbasa (polish sausage) in a bun with onion and green peppers for dinner. My pastor is a Polish-American and he mentioned kielbasa several times during his sermons. So it was another food that I thought I should try.

Musikfest food system is like a food fair in schools/church in Malaysia. One has to buy coupons/tickets before exchanging those for food or beverage. Each ticket is 50 cents. The kielbasa= 12 tickets, funnel cake= 8 tickets, and lemonade= 7 tickets. Not cheap. So I’m planning to sneak in some food during the Heart concert that I’ll be attending next Sunday.

Musikfest food

musikfest food

I’ve been in Bethlehem for close to three years and I’ve never attended the Musikfest till now. Musikfest is a 10-day music festival held in Bethlehem every August. Today I made a special trip to check out the festival and see what it is all about.

There’s lots of music and a lot more food. And I figured for a lot of people it’s all about hanging out with friends and family, and not really about the music, since they were chatting away during the performance.
